first-year Representative
Innovate. Educate. Inspire.

aboutAshiSh
Ashish is a freshman student majoring in Business Honors, Plan II Honors, and Finance. From a young age, he has been committed to furthering change in his school and community, whether by expanding civic education programs to his high school or by volunteering at his local YMCA. His passion for leadership in his school is evident as well; he served as the president of five organizations on campus, including the National Honor Society and the Interact Club, where he introduced reforms to boost member representation through rotating member council seats, prepared students for the future by starting the first career fair at Dawson HS, and coordinated relief efforts between 9 campus organizations in response to Hurricane Harvey. Ashish has also served admirably in his community, acting as the Chief Policy Advisor for one of the youngest elected officials in the nation, an independent campaign consultant for Pearland City Council and School Board candidates, and earning the rank of Eagle Scout. After college, he plans to explore a possible career in law and politics on a national stage.
Our Platform
Innovate
Ashish Dave wants to serve the freshman community through innovative strategies and programs. Over the first month of classes, it has become apparent that SureWalk and Longhorn EMS are incredible safety programs; however, their wait times can be dangerously slow. Busy nights can lead to thirty to sixty minute wait times for a SureWalk. To improve wait times and increase awareness of how to call a SureWalk, Ashish is ready to find innovative fundraising strategies to increase the number of golf carts on any given night.

Educate
Nationally, roughly half of undergraduate students are financially independent from their parents. With so many students communicating with the Office of Financial Aid, it is imperative that the Office has clear communication regarding loans, grants, and scholarships, as well as changes in tuition and the effect on financial aid packages. Ashish plans on not only improving communication, but most of all increasing freshman knowledge of what financial resources exist for students putting themselves through college. Students should be worried about their classes, not how to manage their loans. Ashish will work to increase financial literacy and education programs for freshmen.
Inspire
The University of Texas at Austin is an incredibly large campus, and that makes it hard to feel like a home some days. However, freshmen should feel welcome and empowered to pursue their passions. Ashish hopes to inspire his classmates through increasing opportunities for freshmen, whether it be through creating a user-friendly HornsLink app with updated information on club and organizational meetings or streamlining the process for first-year students to build their own initiatives on campus.
